The CCMIB-2 Marine is the rifle infantry unit of the Crayven Security Forces. Marines are armed with assault rifles. They are capable of defeating light terradyne armor and can be loaded into the command APC for protection and transport.

Background[]

Infantry have always been and will always remain an important role in any army. The Crayven Marines are highly trained infantry soldiers who fight alongside terradynes carrying out special assignments.

Infantry can be loaded into the Command APC for protection and transport. Their primary weapon is the Welby-Simms Dev20011 "Devastator" assault rifle, which is adequate for enemy infantry but underpowered against armored targets such as terradynes or hoverdynes.

Considering the devastating firepower deployed on the battlefield, personal armor is essential. Marine combat armor is designed for maximum mobility with optimum protection and is the toughest protection available to infantry short of powered armor. The CB39 Battlesuit is composed of a fused amalgam of hardened alloys, ceramic plates and Polysteel battle plastics formed to allow maximum maneuverability. The armor consists of a rigid exoskeletal armor covering most of the body with an undersuiting of mesh and resilient webbing to protect exposed locations such as joints, neck and the groin.

A marine squad can be equipped with the RMM-9 Mortar, lobbing high-explosive grenades in a high arc towards the target or the CG-89 mm Anti-tank rocket launcher. It fires an 89 mm rocket capable of defeating most tanks unlucky enough to be in its way.[1]

Overview[]

Along with the Rhino, marines are the first units available, with a squad given on the first mission. As with all infantry, they are slow-moving, but make up for this by being able to traverse rough terrain. Their relatively small size makes them hard to hit, particularly by weapons that are designed to counter larger terradynes. They are very vulnerable to area of effect damage, however. A single artillery salvo can destroy an unlucky marine squad, and attack aerodynes can pick them off with impunity if they are spotted. Marines are armed with automatic rifles that deal fair damage over time to other infantry and light vehicles. They can engage aerodynes but are very inaccurate when doing so. Their weapons are too light to make frontal attacks on medium vehicles, but they can still damage them if approaching from the flank or rear. Their guns are completely ineffective against heavy hoverdynes and terradynes from all angles.

Marines can be loaded into the command APC Rhino for rapid transport, alleviating their weakness of slow movement.

Marines can temporarily increase their firepower by using their special weapons. The RMM-9 mortar is an all-purpose indirect fire weapon, making it useful for varied targets in rough terrain. The CG-89mm AT rocket fires in a straight line, making it suitable mostly for only flat terrain, but deals extremely high damage. Rockets are so powerful that all eight marines firing them can destroy multiple targets in a row if lined up correctly.

Later in the game, marines are outclassed in terms of damage by terradynes and aerodynes that deal more damage and can punch through thicker armor. However, infantry retain their usefulness in niche roles. ATI-720 Templar, O11/BEHCCA Orions and DTA-266 AMRLT Firecrackers cause heavy damage to vehicles but are completely helpless against infantry, as are anti-air vehicles.

Marine special equipment includes personal medkits, useful if they are taking intense fire that the APC can't repair quickly enough, or if they are operating far from the APC. Marines can also swap their medkits for a single-use deployable radar instead. This reveals all enemy units in a sizable radius, making it highly useful on defensive missions.

Marines are fairly stealthy units, allowing them to hide from enemy units and usually allowing them to spot them before being spotted, though they are not as stealthy, fast, or perceptive as CCSF-9 Jaegers.
