The OCRU-1001 Crusaders are the shock infantry of the Order's Pax Dei. Crusader infantry are armed with Storm carbines capable of defeating lightly armored targets. Crusaders, like all infantry, can be transported in the command APC.

Background[]

The Crusaders are the shock infantry of the Pax Dei, the military division of the Order of the New Dawn. Many soldiers view the Crusaders with extreme respect and it is considered to be very prestigious to be a Crusader in the Pax Dei.

The Crusaders primary armament is the Cobra AAG-50 "Soul Cleanser" Storm Carbine. In order to operate the gun properly a heavy combat suit with an enhanced exoskeleton is needed, such as the Crusader armor. It is powerful enough to seriously damage light vehicles but against heavier targets, the Crusaders need to approach from the rear where the armor is weaker.

The powered exoskeleton worn by the Crusaders allows them to go head-to-head against enemy terradynes even though a frontal assault would be futile. Order Field Commanders regularly inject different combat drugs into the Crusaders in order to improve their aggressiveness factor. As a result many Crusaders are burned out at an early age.

The Crusader combat armor is designed for maximum mobility with optimum protection and is the toughest protection available to infantry short of powered armor. Crusaders are classified as infantry and can be loaded into a Command APC for transport.[1]

Overview[]

Crusaders are the Order equivalent of CCMIB-2 Marines, and largely fill the same roles.

Along with the O5/DCAPC, Crusaders are the first units available, with a squad given on the first mission. As with all infantry, they are slow-moving, but make up for this by being able to traverse rough terrain. Their relatively small size makes them hard to hit, particularly by weapons that are designed to counter larger hoverdynes. They are very vulnerable to area of effect damage, however. A single artillery salvo can destroy an unlucky Crusader squad, and attack aerodynes can pick them off with impunity if they are spotted. Crusaders are armed with automatic rifles that deal fair damage to other infantry and light vehicles. They can engage aerodynes but are very inaccurate when doing so. Their weapons are too light to make frontal attacks on medium and heavy vehicles, but they can still damage them if approaching from the flank or rear.

Crusaders can be loaded into the command APC O5/DCAPC for rapid transport, alleviating their weakness of slow movement.

Crusaders can temporarily increase their firepower by using their special weapons. The SMAUG-12 flamethrower is a short-ranged, indirect fire attack that deals extreme damage to enemy infantry. The focused energy pulse deals an extremely high amount of damage over medium range to enemy armor.

Later in the game, crusaders are outclassed in terms of damage by hoverdynes and aerodynes that deal more damage and can punch through thicker armor. However, infantry retain their usefulness in niche roles. ATI-720 Templar, O11/BEHCCA Orions and DTA-266 AMRLT Firecrackers cause heavy damage to vehicles but are completely helpless against infantry, as are anti-air vehicles.

Crusader special equipment is identical to that of marines. This includes personal medkits, useful if they are taking intense fire that the APC can't repair quickly enough, or if they are operating far from the APC. Crusaders can also swap their medkits for a single-use deployable radar instead. This reveals all enemy units in a sizable radius, making it highly useful on defensive missions.

Crusaders have good perception and stealth, allowing them to spot enemy units and hide from them with equal skill.
