The OA2/HAA-309 Phoenix is the attack aerodyne of the Order's Pax Dei. Attack aerodynes are designed to take out heavy ground targets. However, they are lightly armored and are no match for enemy fighters.
Background[]
The Phoenix or OA2/HAA-309 is one of the most feared Order aerodynes as its terradyne breaking ability is legendary or as the Pax Dei uncannily expresses it - divine. The Phoenix relies on its high speed and stealthy maneuvers to get within range of the enemy and then launches a deadly barrage of torpedoes. The aerodyne’s single engine outlet and its active VonTec Mk. III electronic countermeasures give the enemy a hard time hitting it. Its aerodyne Polysteel-15 layered armor gives it little or no protection when weapons do hit.
The Phoenix is primarily loaded with Hugh SZX-3000 "Jaguar" SCREAM torpedoes. The SCREAM torpedo warheads contains a shaped-charged director in the nose to provide the warhead with an enhanced armor penetrating capability. A secondary warhead explodes milliseconds later - inside the armored layers of the target. The weapon system can with limited success also target other aerodyne targets, however it is no match versus a true aerodyne fighter such as the Crayven Delta.
Overview[]
Phoenixes are the Order's answer to the Crayven Corporation's AV/U-309 HAA Vultures: fast moving attack aerodynes with devastating firepower. Phoenixes operate in a near-identical manner to Vultures: they quickly dispatch infantry and light vehicles and are a serious threat to medium vehicles, but damage the heaviest tanks relatively slowly. Phoenixes fire torpedoes that travel rapidly in a straight line; therefore, they deal their best damage against targets in open, flat terrain. Trees, bumpy terrain, and obstructive walls can all limit the damage phoenixes can inflict. They can fire on aerodynes but with very poor accuracy. Phoenixes have nominally somewhat better armor than their Crayven counterparts, though anti-air attacks can still destroy them very quickly.
As the Order lacks bomber aerodynes, Phoenixes are the best air-to-ground aerodynes in every way for the Order, including when firing upon buildings.
Phoenixes can be equipped with anti-infantry fragmentation torpedoes, although these are usually redundant given their already high effectiveness against infantry. They can also be equipped with solar torpedoes to aid them in their anti-building role.
In terms of equipment, Phoenixes can use image intensifiers to increase their view range in the absence of proper scouts. They may switch out their image intensifiers for energy shields, which temporarily block incoming fire. The mechanics of energy shields are a major weakness for Phoenixes compared to Vultures: while Vultures' equivalent anti-missile systems block incoming fire without fail for one minute and can be sequentially activated for continuous coverage, Phoenixes' energy shields block only a limited amount of fire before they dissipate with a long cooldown before they can be reactivated, leaving them highly vulnerable to anti-air fire.
Abilities[]
Special weapons[]
Fragmentation torpedo The fragmentation torpedo is specifically designed to take out enemy infantry and light vehicles. 3 charges. |
Solar torpedo The solar torpedo's main function is to totally annihilate enemy structures. It is not very useful versus terradynes due the torpedo's extremely slow velocity. 2 charges. |
Special equipment[]
Image intensifier Helmet mounted vision enhancer. For 90 seconds increases the possible view range with advanced image intensifier equipment. 3 charges. |
Energy shield Protects the aerodyne against all incoming enemy fire for 10 seconds when activated. 3 charges. |
