The Satellite is the seventh Crayven mission in Ground Control.[1]

Objectives[]

Your light terradyne squad can now be equipped with deployable anti-air sentry guns that could prove useful for the mission.

  • Defend radar base RB-12 and destroy the Cipher spy satellite.

Walkthrough[]

The player is given no additional squads of units, but gains an additional dropship, allowing them to bring all five squads. Light terradynes are given the ability to switch out their field repair kits with automated defensive turrets. These turrets can be configured to be anti-air, armor, or infantry. The anti-air turrets in particular come in handy for this mission as the Order has a fairly large number of aerodynes. This is also the first mission that allows infantry squads to be reconfigured into CCSF-9 Jaeger scouts, who have less firepower than marines but have excellent view range and perception.

The player is tasked with defending a Crayven base in the center of the map, which is also where the drop zone is. The attackers consist of light hoverdynes and OCRU-1001 Crusaders. On higher difficulties, it may be worth bringing a SFB-209 AAT Wolf squad or two with repair stations so that multiple entrances can be covered by units being constantly repaired. The Order also sends several OA1/FAS-T12 Lyra scout aerodynes. While they individually do not deal much damage, it can accumulate over time, particularly on harder difficulties. Anti-air turrets deployed by light terradynes are by far the best defense against them, though given enough time light terradyne, marine or even Command APC fire can take them down.

A few minutes into the mission, Sergeant Cole contacts Major Parker and asks for an escort to the base. He is located in the south-eastern corner of the map. Standing in between him are some light forces, and a squad or two of terradynes is adequate for safely guarding him as he makes his way to the base.

Parker is then informed that the satellite's location has been discovered. It spawns randomly, either at the large canyon to the north-west, or the smaller canyon to the south-west. Both canyons have valleys leading to them, and these valleys are guarded by ATI-720 Templar: specialized Order infantry that deal very high damage to vehicles. Using marines or jaegers to scout the hills before sending in the armor can help avoid deadly surprises. The usual fare of crusaders, light hoverdynes, and medium hoverdynes also guard the area around the satellite, but they can be destroyed easily as long as the player advances carefully.
